Overview
Stearic acid, or octadecanoic acid, is produced by the hydrolysis of fats and oils, and appears as a white waxy transparent solid or a slightly yellow waxy solid that can be dispersed as a powder, with a slight odor of butter. Stearic acid is a kind of fatty acid widely existed in nature, almost all fats and oils have varying content of stearic acid, the content in animal fats is higher, such as the content of butter can reach 24%, the content in vegetable oils is less, tea oil is 0.8%.
Structural short formula: CH3(CH2)16COOH, produced by hydrolysis of fats and oils, mainly used in the production of stearates. Each gram dissolved in 21ml ethanol, 5ml benzene, 2ml chloroform or 6ml carbon tetrachloride.

1. as a vulcanizing active agent, softening agent and dispersant in the rubber industry
